In short: most IPTV buffering comes from Wi-Fi, a busy connection or an overloaded device. Test your speed where the TV is, use Ethernet if you can, restart and clear the app, lower the quality for busy evenings and update the app. If one channel still buffers, contact support.

First, find out where the problem is

  • All channels buffer: usually your connection or device.
  • One channel buffers: usually that stream; tell support which one.
  • Only in the evening: usually network congestion.
  • Only on one TV: usually that device or its Wi-Fi signal.

12 checks that fix most buffering

1. Test the speed where the TV is

Run a speed test on a phone standing next to the TV, not next to the router. Aim for around 10 Mbps for HD, 20 Mbps for Full HD and 30 Mbps for 4K, per screen.

2. Use an Ethernet cable

A wired connection is the single biggest fix. If the router is far away, powerline adapters can carry the connection through your mains wiring.

3. Improve your Wi-Fi

Use the 5 GHz band, move the router out of cupboards and away from the floor, and consider mesh Wi-Fi in larger homes or buildings with thick walls, such as stone cottages and tenements.

4. Restart everything in the right order

Turn off the TV device and the router, wait 30 seconds, start the router, wait until it is online, then start the TV device.

5. Clear the app cache

On Firestick and Android, go to Settings, Applications, choose your IPTV app and clear the cache (not the data, or you will need to log in again).

6. Free up storage and memory

Uninstall apps you do not use and close background apps. Older Firesticks with little free storage often stutter.

7. Update the app and the device

Install the latest version of your IPTV app and system updates for the TV or stick.

8. Lower the quality at busy times

If a 4K or FHD channel buffers in the evening, try the HD version. A steady HD picture beats a 4K picture that keeps stopping.

9. Change the player or buffer settings

In IPTV Smarters Pro, try switching between the built-in player and the alternative player in Settings. Some apps also let you increase the buffer size.

10. Limit other heavy use

Large downloads, game updates, cloud backups and several 4K streams at once all compete for the same connection.

11. Try different DNS settings

Changing your router or device DNS to a well-known public DNS service can speed up connections to streaming servers for some broadband providers.

12. Test a VPN, carefully

If you suspect your provider is slowing down streaming traffic, test with a reputable VPN. If it makes things slower, turn it off.

Still buffering?

Send our team the device you use, the app, the channel name and the time it happened through the contact page. If you get an error message rather than buffering, see the Xtream and M3U error guide. Choosing a lighter app can also help on older devices; compare options in the best IPTV apps.

Frequently asked questions

Why does IPTV buffer only in the evening?

Evenings are when home and local networks are busiest. More people stream at the same time, so a connection that is fine in the morning can struggle at 8pm. A wired connection and a lower quality setting usually help.

Will a VPN stop IPTV buffering?

Sometimes, if your internet provider slows down video traffic, but a VPN can also make things slower. Test with and without it and keep the faster option.

What speed do I need for 4K IPTV?

Allow around 30 Mbps of stable speed for one 4K stream, more if other people are online at the same time.
